Jamaica Public Hospitals Approach the Brink While Ivermectin Shipment in Delay
Risk and benefit analysis suggests if a drug with a well-established, safe profile can help then why wouldn’t such a drug be used?

The heated debate on the use of Ivermectin to treat COVID-19 continued yesterday when outspoken reggae artiste Tanya Stephens questioned the relevance of not allowing people to decide for themselves what they wish to take to reduce symptoms.
Jamaica’s Minister of Health and Wellness recently signed the import permit to allow stocks of Ivermectin into Jamaica. This comes after rising cases due to the COVID-19 Delta variant and increasing public pressure. Supplies of the generic, anti-parasitic drug will come from Edenbridge Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey and be distributed by LASCO Pharmaceuticals in Jamaica. In general, doctors are pleased about having Ivermectin as an option.
For months, India’s national authorities have authorized ivermectin as a regimen to be included targeting COVID-19 yet this authorization was then removed due in part to both internal and external political pressure. Now the world’s fourth most populous nation’s regulatory authority has authorised ivermectin’s use in a major breakthrough for the drug’s role in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ivermectin, a medicine for parasites, has been around for four decades. While not authorized for use against COVID-19, dozens of studies show materially positive results. At well-established human dosage levels, the drug is safe: hundreds of millions of people are treated with it every year mostly in the tropics for various parasite-borne diseases, such as River Blindness in Nigeria.
As part of Mission Sagar – IV, Indian Naval Ship Jalashwa arrived at Port Ehoala, Madagascar on 22 March 2021. The ship will deliver a consignment of 1,000 Metric Tonne of rice and 100,000 Hydroxychloroquine tablets in response to an appeal made by Madagascar for assistance to deal with natural calamities.
It’s a major breakthrough for the people of South Africa because we’ve been very adamant that ivermectin can assist in this pandemic.
“Potent anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties have now been demonstrated against SARS CoV-2. A significant body of peer-reviewed evidence has now emerged pointing to the fact that Ivermectin may decrease the case count and mortality rates when used as a prophylactic agent, and when used in the treatment of all stages of COVID-19. The safety profile of this drug is well demonstrated after 40 years of clinical use,” the MAJ president said.
An email from Prime Minister Trudeau’s director of policy and cabinet affairs, Rick Theis, to Trudeau’s lead speechwriter, Astrid Krizus, about the ordering of pandemic supplies shows that the writer was suggested to make no mention of the Government of Canada’s purchase of hydroxychloroquine alongside other supplies, when preparing an official statement.
